On Monday, 14th July 2025, the energy was electric and the crowd was roaring at the Akin Deko auditorium in the University of Benin (UNIBEN). The auditorium was lit—all thanks to the De9jaSpirit Talent Hunt.
Students swarmed in from different faculties to witness an unforgettable event filled with creativity, celebrity presence, and unexpected surprises. We are here to gist you in case you missed it (and we hope you didn’t).
Guess who graced our school? None other than IK Ogbonna, Vector tha Viper, and the always-vibrant VJ Adams as host. From the second they stepped in, the crowd knew something special was about to go down. But, many students wished Liquorose and ID Cabasa were present. What else should we have expected when there was a special flyer telling us to anticipate ID Cabasa?
We saw singers that gave us goosebumps, dancers with synchronized moves (some better than others), and spoken word artists with next-level drama that had us clapping mid-performance. There was even a magician whose act didn’t go as planned… he ran off the stage leaving a beautiful lady he called from the audience standing there in confusion. Someone said, “so e just come waste our time,” but hey, UNIBEN forgives and doesn’t like vawulence 😶, and the show moved on with even louder cheers. That’s the spirit; De9jaSpirit!
One of the most exciting segments was the audience talent performances. We saw some amazing talents too who for one reason or the other couldn’t enter the DTH Campus Tour auditions. The top five contestants from the audience got prizes like a generator, a smart tv, a microwave, and other prizes. We only wished the judges stayed for this performance too.
UNIBEN students didn’t just watch the show, we became the show. It was a reminder that talent lives among us from the lecture theatre to hostels, from sports complex to buka, and from main gate to back gate. All the way—hall 4, law, basement. Only 𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐁𝐄𝐍 students fit relate to that one.😂
A BAMSSite, Angel, hit the stage too! With poise and passion, she sang her heart out before the crowd and the judges receiving wild applause. Even though she got a “No” from both IK and Vector, she walked off that stage with the kind of boldness we celebrate.
